Fenland Flyers Swim Locally again after 25 years

The Fenland Flyers Swimming Team joined forces again after a break of 25 years, Jamie Richardson from March Marlins, Martyn Fresher from Chatteris Kingsfishers and EJ Gibbons from Wisbech Swimming Club recently met up and decided to see if everyone wanted to team back up to enter into the Cambs Cup on Sunday 27th June 2010 at Cambridge Regional Pool. The three clubs agreed and on their first outing together, the Flyers flew home with impressive 2nd places by - Stephen Mavin in the 100m Butterfly, Phoebe Gallagher in the 50m Breaststroke and Gary Smith, Matthew Jakeman, Stephen Mavin and Mark Thompson in the 200m freestyle relay. 3rd places went to Sara Knight, Charlotte Riches, Annabel Van Daalen and Kate Newton in the 200m Medley Relay, Gary Smith, Matthew Jakeman, Stephen Mavin and Mark Thompson in the 200m Medley Relay, Charlotte Riches in the 50m Breaststroke, Adam Lifshack in the 100m Breaststroke, Mollie Allen in the 50m Freestyle, Stephen Marvin in the 100m Freestyle, Luke Oliver in the 100m Butterfly, Sara Knight, Charlotte Riches, Annabel Van Daalen, Kate Newton in the 200m freestyle relay, Gary Smith in the 100m Backstroke and Tom Kelly, Adam Lifshack, Luke Oliver and Ryan Rout-Lester in the 200m Medley Relay. After swimming so well, and enjoying the evening, the Flyers will be teaming up again soon to enter into other major swimming events in and out of the County. Final Placings for the evening were
1st place – Peterborough, 2nd Place – Cambridge, 3rd Place – St Ives, 4th Place – Fenland Flyers and 5th place – Huntingdon. Huntingdon Piranhas Spring Shield

Chatteris Kingfishers S.C. swam in the Huntingdon Piranhas Spring Shield gala and finished second after hosts Huntingdon, but just ahead of Wisbech. It was a gala with tailored cut-off times and swimmers breaking the times or getting disqualified only got half a point for that race, instead of the full amount. The Chatteris swimmers did very well, getting 17 personal best times, but 7 swimmers lost points by going too fast. 11 swimmers managed first place, 10 swimmers swam to second place and 6 swimmers got third places. Final result was Huntingdon 111 Chatteris 96, Wisbech 94 and Modernians (Bedford) 85 points.
Beating the cut-off time with personal best times were Liam Oliver in 11/U 25m butterfly and 11/U 50m breaststroke, Victoria Allen in 11/U 50m front crawl, Rhiannon Stevenson in 11/U 25m butterfly, Matthew Halmshaw in 15/U 50m breaststroke, Ashley Starreveld in 15/U 50m front crawl and Ivo Nooteboom in 13/U 50m front crawl.
First places were achieved by Mollie Allen in 13/U 50m backstroke and 15/U 50m front crawl, Kathleen Loveridge in Open 50m butterfly (p.b.), Kirsty Slyfield in Open 50m backstroke, Matthew Halmshaw in 13/U 50m butterfly (p.b.), Matthijs Nooteboom in 13/U 50m backstroke (p.b.), Erwin Nooteboom in Open 50m front crawl and the mixed medley relay team for 15/U and Open girls with Kathleen and Esther Loveridge, Kirsty Slyfield and Mollie Allen, the mixed medley relay team for 11 and 13/U boys with Matthijs Nooteboom, Matthew Halmshaw, Liam Oliver and debutant David Loveridge and the 11/13/U freestyle relay team too, with Ivo and Matthijs Nooteboom, Liam Oliver and David Loveridge, as well as the Open/15/U male freestyle relay team with Martyn Fresher, Matthew Halmshaw, Ashley Starreveld and Mark Thompson.
Second places were reached by Erwin Nooteboom in Open 50m butterfly (p.b.), Mollie Allen in 15/U 50m backstroke, Mark Thompson in Open 50m backstroke, Martyn Fresher in Open 50m breaststroke,Chloe Selman in 13/U 50m butterfly (p.b.), Cara Fresher in Open 50m front crawl, Kirsty Slyfield in 15/U 50m butterfly, the 15/U/Open girls freestyle relay team with Cara Fresher, Kathleen Loveridge, Kirsty Slyfield and Mollie Allen and the cannon relay team.
Further personal best times were achieved by first-time competition swimmer David Loveridge in 11/U 50m front crawl and 50m backstroke, Liam Oliver in 15/U 50m backstroke, Chloe Selman in 13/U 50m breaststroke and Victoria Allen in 11/U 50m backstroke.


A good start to the year!

Chatteris Kingfishers S.C. finally got into action in the last weekends. First of all 9 swimmers took part in the Thetford Open Meet, swimming in the 50m (younger ones) and 100m (older ones) races. Liam Oliver (11) swam very well, swimming personal best times personal best times in all 5 of his races, gaining gold medals for his 50m front crawl, and butterfly, silver in his 100m I.M., bronze in the 50m backstroke and fifth place in the 50m breaststroke. Mollie Allen (11) also swam personal best times in all of her 5 races, finishing 4th in her 50m front crawl and fifth in all her other races.
Gary Smith (master) won silver in the 100m backstroke, bronze in the 200m I.M. ,and 4th place in 100m breaststroke, as well as finishing 7th in 100m butterfly. Mark Thompson (master) won a silver and a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly and 100m front crawl respectively. Luke Oliver (14) did almost as well as his younger brother, swimming personal best times in his four 100m races, achieving a bronze medal in his 100m front crawl, 4th place in 100m butterfly and 100m breaststroke and 5th place in the 100m backstroke. Ashley Starreveld (14) swam personal best times in his 100m breaststroke and front crawl, finishing 8th in both. Rhiannon Stevenson (11) swam to a personal best time in the 50m backstroke. Swimming as well were Cara Fresher (16), Martyn Fresher (master) and Victoria Allen (11).
This weekend the senior squad swam in Kings Lynn in the first round of the Anglian League and came away with second place(72), behind West Norfolk (100), but just ahead off St. Neots (71) and Boston B. (64). Four senior swimmers came from Sudbury where earlier in the day they had competed in the Valentines Masters Open Meet, the results of which are not yet known. The team came away with 4 first places, 10 second places and 19 personal best times, with many of the younger swimmers swimming in higher age groups. First places were achieved by Liam Oliver in 13/U 100m front crawl (p.b.), Mark Thompson in 50m backstroke (p.b.), Kirsty Slyfield in 15/U 200m I.M. and coach Jo Pearce in Open 50m butterfly. Second places were achieved by Gary Smith and Kathleen Loveridge in Open 100m I.M., Liam Oliver in 13/U 200m I.M. and 100m butterfly, Martyn Fresher in Open 50m butterfly and 50m front crawl, Mark Thompson in Open 50m breaststroke and Luke Oliver in 15/U 100m backstroke and the cannon relay team with Gary Smith, Kathleen Loveridge, Luke Oliver, Kirsty Slyfield, Liam Oliver and Mollie Allen. Swimming personal best times as well were Matthijs Nooteboom in 15/U 200m I.M., Ashley Starreveld in 100m front crawl and breaststroke, Joshua Edgley in 13/u 100m backstroke and breaststroke, Mollie Allen in 13/U 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke, and 200m I.M., Chloe Selman in 13/U 100m front crawl and 100m breaststroke, Matthew Halmshaw in 15/U 100m breaststroke and Emily Wood in 15/U 100m front crawl and 100m breaststroke. Also swimming good races were Esther Loveridge and Cara Fresher.
Swimming in the Valentines Masters Open Meet were Martyn Fresher, Bastiaan and Erwin Nooteboom, Gary Smith, Mark Thompson and Cara Fresher.
