Chatteris Kingfishers History

May I take this oportunity of introducing you to Chatteris Kingfishers Swimming Club. As the name suggests, we are based in the small Fenland Market town of Chatteris , situated between March to the North and Ely, to the South.
Our Club started back 1964 with a small group of swimmers using the privately run town pool. Since the early days, the club has grown considerably and today we have a total of some 130 registered swimmers. We do however, still use the only available facility to us, the original town pool.

This being four lanes wide and seventeen metres in length. Unfortunately, the pools facilities have seen little improvement over the years, changing rooms remain block work alcoves with no doors, no lockers are provided, spectator seating is very limited, ceilings are low and quite claustrophobic, despite this, we have a good group of swimmers, ranging from young children learning to swim for the first time, through to adults keeping generally fit and healthy. Intermediate and senior swimmers are encouraged to improve their technique or indeed challenge other clubs at regional level.
